Edinburgh festival is well underway and we have been lucky enough to pick up a couple of nice reviews and had amazing audiences. The Boy has been spending quite a bit of time down at the BBC bubble and has managed to pop on the red button a couple of times and then was lucky enough to be invited to perform on BBC3 Live the other night.
The feedback from people has been great and The Boy looks forward to seeing some of the new Silent Ones pics of them not being The Boy!
The online game has been a success and we still have a few treats in the pipeline.
The Boy is getting the hang of twitter a bit more so make sure you follow him @tapefaceboy
The Boy got to meet The Hoff the other day, it will take a lot to top that news!
Only a few tickets left for the one night only show down on the Southbank! Get in quick!
A very successful time has been had at the 2011 NZ Comedy Festival. Sold out shows, extra dates and a tour of the country that even involved swimming with sharks.
The award of “Best Show – Auckland” was a very nice surprise and the award of “Best Marketing” could not have been achieved without a selection of silent ones making something so simple into a new bigger idea.
Now back in the UK with a small window of downtime to get back up to date with the world and see what parts are on the list.
Work on the third show has also started and will be a slow cooker of development as I have some very tricky thoughts that even I can’t quite see how they become real just yet.
Show opened tonight in the Comedy Chamber at the Town Hall and after an afternoon of lighting design and prop sorting it was great to have the show run without a hitch. Extra show already added and already selling fast.
It all kicks off tomorrow with the first big preview show and then the next night is the Big Gala showcase. A world of promotion has been done and I guess now we just go into normal festival mode and do what we can to get the word out about the show.
I always get that “hosting a party” feeling, the one that has you wondering if everybody will show up or will it just be me standing onstage and the sound and lights techs talking to each other because at the Auckland season they have already seen the show!
Wellington will be nice. I have never performed the full show there before and think that the style of entertainment suits some of the funky types that live there. I hope they hear about it.
Tell someone and I will make sure to look for them in the crowd.
Tonight was the first of two preview shows for me to get onstage and shake out the old show again. It was a very good thing to do as after a month of playing with new routines and toys has made me have to remember the little moments of joys that are in the first show. Looks like I now have a month to re-tweak and play with fun NZ crowds!
A fantastic time with the Jan Maree Experience performing at some very fun venues in parts of the country that I had never had a chance to get to.
Highlight include the kettle soaking my iPod, turning down the one kilo steak and thinking that I could have done it after all and I will never forget watching a vodka gargle to help sooth the vocal cords and the result that I will post to some silent ones later on.
Doing lots of promotion for NZ Comedy festival. Look out for me in your newspapers, magazines and I might even be on the telly.
Did an amazing picture that involved a woolen bow-tie and some woolen glasses
Will share pictures when I get them.
Jan Maree, Gish and Me.
